We recently posted Nicki Minaj on the front cover of The Fader magazine (you can see that here), and we now have the article and some more photos from the photo shoot courtesy of BlogXilla. The magazine should hit newsstands sometime next week, and in the interview below, Nicki speaks about her first rhymes, her status in Rap, and why she’s always making those goofy faces. You can also view some outtakes from the photo shoot here!
Nicki Minaj on Her Status In The Game and Being A Personality: “I don’t know where I fit in the spercturum of rap yet, I think now I’m kind of proving myself, but before, people thought of I was more of a sex symbol or wannabe sex symbol. Now they’re seeing. That’s why I make the goofiest faces, I don’t want people to think I’m up here trying to be cute. I’m trying to entertain, and entertaining is more than exuding sex appeal. I don’t think that’s fun. I don’t find it fun watching someone trying to be sexy. It’s wack. I’m trying to just show my true personality, and I think that means more than anything else. I think when personality is at the forefront, its not about male or female, its just about, who is this weird character?”
Nicki Minaj on Control and Writing Her Own Rhymes: “I am so territorial, that [from the start] I just felt like whatever I was gonna do I was gonna write it myself, its my personal preference to always be in control of everything I do in life.”
Nicki Minaj on Writing ‘Saxon’ For Rihanna: “This wasn’t supposed to come out in the world with Nicki Minaj on it. This was written for someone else, and I felt so f*cked up behind it. But I thought the beat was very different, and I wanted to write something for Rihanna that showed like, I already shut that shit down.

The event, now in its sixth year, celebrates the connection between music and fashion, and Rip The Runway is set to air on March 15 on BET. (XXL)
“First of all, I got my new record out. It’s called ‘Get It All’ featuring Nicki Minaj. Me and Wayne just did my second video, which is called ‘Girls on Girls,’ or ‘Girls,’ for a better choice of words. It’s actually Sean Garrett, T-Pain and Lil Wayne — or as they would say, ‘T-Wayne.’ So this is going to be a big year. We got a big announcement we’re gonna be doing in a couple of weeks, so there’s a lot coming from that situation.”
“I just did Nicki‘s first single. It’s coming in a week or so. Explosive record, I can’t wait for y’all to hear it, man. It’s just given me a lot of time to create some real special music that’s a lot different from what people expected,” Garrett said.
“I’m really, really excited about Nicki because I think that what Nicki has understood is that she can do whatever she wants to do,” he added about the sexy female MC. “She’s a dreamer just like myself. I feel like when you’re creative … it’s basically like her whole image thing. She’s taken her image to a whole other level with the whole Barbie thing. And I think she’s very imaginative and her music’s great and she’s not scared of nothing. She’s fearless. As long as you’re fearless in life you can do anything.” (MTV)
