Tyga Chats To Flaunt Magazine About Working With Kanye West, School, Pain & More

Tyga recently took part in a photo shoot with Renie Saliba for Flaunt magazine, as well as chopped it up with Matthew Bedard from the magazine for an interview.

During their interview, T-Raww discussed how he would define “excess”, cultures, growing as an artist, working with Kanye West, school, what he will have in his tomb, what pain is to him, his tiger, and more.

You can read the full interview after the jump below!

Describe your environment right now.
I’m in the lobby of my house, just some statues, a tiger cage, got some awards on the wall, some art, a grand piano, white couch, and a white fur rug.

How would you define excess?
People say stuff like that and it means it’s impossible to the regular eye, the regular mind, you know? When I think of stuff like that I think that’s possible. For me to think it’s impossible doesn’t do nothing for me.

How would you relate that to the creation of your music?
I mean just trying new things, trying different voices, trying to say stuff that makes people think, “What did he say?” And just being able to paint a picture visually, but still make it cool, not corny.

Would you say that most of culture is corny?
Nah, it’s different cultures but most people are good at one thing. A lot of people don’t expand to different cultures and learn different things, and people don’t travel so a lot of people just like to be one way. That’s fine, but why do we have to be just one way, you know?

Sure, and how do you feel you’re growing right now as an artist?
I’m growing a lot, you know what I’m saying? I’m trying new things out, like my voice and trying different collabs with different artists. I’m more open to more things, especially working with Kanye. It’s things that I wouldn’t hear, that he hears on different songs. Just really opening and broadening your mind when it comes to making music because it’s all about the bigger picture in the outcome.

The issue theme is back to school. If you were to change one thing about your experience with school as a kid, what would it be?
I would have gone to a [business] school or something because I feel like in high school I didn’t really learn nothing. I feel like high school was just a fashion show for me, which was fun, but I mean, looking back I didn’t really gain nothing from high school.

You have a fascination with pharaohs and Egyptian rulers, so I wanted to ask you what’s going to be in the Tyga tomb?
Definitely we going to have gold, art—I mean, anything I’m into at the moment, by that time whatever I’ve gone through in my life that I want to take with me. I get into different stuff every couples months, I may be real into art right now, now I might be into something else. I always like to master whatever it is I’m into, and then try to find what’s next. In the tomb… it has to be crazy, but of course the regular necessities like gold, statues, and things that are valuable to you.

Tell me about the tiger you own.
I feel like tigers are animals fit for a king.

How important is community to you when growing as an artist?
Community is real important. You need to know your surroundings. You can’t grow on your own—you gotta have people around to grow with you. That’s a part of growing: outside experiences and watching other people’s experiences and taking from that. You need environment, you need different energies, you can’t grow with your own energy. You got to be surrounded by different energies to grow into your own.

Growing processes can be painful. What to you defines pain?
Not knowing what your next move is… not having help… pain is loss almost. You don’t have a concept of reality, just a concept of complete loss. I wouldn’t even say pain is physical. Pain is more mental to me than physical.
