One Of The Producers Behind Drake U With Me Off VIEWS Speaks On The Song

One of the producers behind Drake‘s “U With Me?” song off his VIEWS album, DJ Dahi, spoke with Genius about how the track came together and how it was almost left off VIEWS.

Dahi explained that he sent the beat to Drizzy Drake‘s manager Oliver El-Khatib, who told the producer that Drizzy loved it and was going to use it. However, an unfinished version of the song leaked in the summer of 2014.

Things didn’t look good for the track then, but Noah “40” Shebib (who also has production credits on the song) called up DJ Dahi to ensure him that the finished version of “U With Me?” will still be appearing on VIEWS. You can read the interview after the jump below!

Creating the beat:
“I made that beat maybe two years ago. They gave me the beat, and I kinda finished it, gave it more texture, and just completed the idea.”

Sending the beat to Drake’s manager:
“‘Drake loves it. He wants to use it.'”

Things not looking good for the song when it leaked:
“I knew how good the record was, just nobody heard the full version.”

The finished version of the song:
“I think it’s dope. I’m happy with it. When you make a beat and somebody could make it sound better, that’s a plus.”
