Mayor John Tory Presents Drake With The Key To Toronto, Jokes About Not Giving It To Lil Wayne

We found out that Drake was about to receive the key to Toronto a couple of days ago, and now we can watch some footage of Toronto mayor John Tory presenting Drizzy with the key to the city during 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend in the “6ix” on February 12th.

“This is one of the greatest moments of my life, if not the greatest. We have something extremely special in this place. I will never stop loving this city. I will never stop representing this city.”

Tory also mentioned in his speech that this is the “highest honor Toronto can offer”, as well as that the key “is non-transferable… not even to Lil Wayne” after Drizzy Drake had referenced about getting a key to his hometown and giving it to Weezy on “Summer Sixteen“!

Drake Will Be Receiving The Key To The City Of Toronto

A couple of days after promo ads for Drake‘s Views From The 6 album started to go up around the “6ix”, John Tory (who is a Toronto mayor) announced on social media that Drizzy will be receiving a key to his hometown today.

What’s crazy is that on Drizzy Drake‘s latest song “Summer Sixteen“, he raps on it: “I might get a key to the city and give it to Wayne, or give it to one of the young boys to carry the wave”.

“I was lucky recently to spend time with a man who is well known in our city and around the world. I knew his name, I knew his face and I knew his music. And we wanted the chance to get to know one another, and talk about the city we love. In our conversations, he told me how he feels about Toronto. He told me what it means to him to be from here, and the role he wants to play. He talked about wanting to contribute and for the city to see him as more than just a name – but a force of good. He talked about his desire to build our music scene, to inspire youth and help address the social issues felt across Toronto. This is a man who has achieved wild success, by any standard. And more than anything, he wants great things for Toronto. This is a man who could live anywhere, but calls Toronto home. He wants us to be proud of him. And we are. I am.”

The honor will be taking place later today during 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend at the Air Canada Center in Toronto. You can watch a clip of mayor John Tory explaining why he is giving Drake the key to the city after the jump below!
