PJ Morton Reveals Details On Signing With Young Money Ent

Since signing with Young Money Entertainment, we haven’t really heard anything new on PJ Morton. For fans worrying that he might not get the attention he deserves at the label, he has reassured them that they don’t need to worry as he has full creative control over his music and decisions. Check out what PJ told YKIGS below about why he signed to YM:

“I have full creative control over the music I do, so I knew it was the right spot for me. I think that’s kinda the misconception about Young Money overall. It’s kind of an old school concept that they have over there in the sense of back in the day, people signed artists that they believed in and they kinda let them do what they do because they already believe as opposed to trying to change who the artist were.” Morton went on to add, “I think they’re bringing back that ‘I don’t care’ creative attitude back to the industry. That let me know it was definitely the right place.”

PJ Morton is currently working on his debut Young Money release, a new EP called Following My First Mind, which will be released in the next few months.

Shanell Speaks On Her “How To Love” Remix

In the video above, Shanell speaks to MTV about her remix to Lil Wayne’s “How To Love” single.

“I guess when I first heard the song, I was mad that it wasn’t mine, because I really liked it,” Shanell told Mixtape Daily of her motivation to remake the tune.

“It’s really stuff that I’ve dealt with in relationships that I’ve been in,” Shanell said. “Instead of getting upset with the guy, kind of feeling bad for him. Like, ‘You’re cheating and I feel bad for you,’ rather than, ‘I’m mad at you because you just don’t know or appreciate what you have. You’re too busy trying to be like your favorite rapper.’

“I think my version wouldn’t be as great as it was if it there wasn’t Wayne’s version for people to hear that side of the story,” she added.

After hearing Shanell’s rendition, Wayne is mulling over the idea of the two performing the song live as a duet during the second leg of his I Am Still Music Tour. “He was really, really surprised that I did it, and he thought it sounded really, really good,” she said of the YM boss’ reaction. “We’re talking about maybe even doing some sort of back and forth thing on the road, on the upcoming tour.”

Video: Drake Will Use Memorial Day Weekend As Research For Take Care

Drake told MTV on the set of DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One” video shoot that he will be partying and using the holiday to see how his upcoming Take Care album will work in a club setting.

“So this is my first Memorial weekend really participating this heavily,” Drizzy said from the set of DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One” video shoot in Miami. “I just want to get out there and touch the people, slap everybody’s hand, see the women; just let them know I’m out here. Let them see me, because they haven’t seen me in a while.”

It isn’t all work however. Drake hints that will be observing the crowds and using his experience to fine tune his album. “And I got this album coming it’s called Take Care, so I just really want to get out here and check the climate. I wanna hear the records, see how everybody’s moving, see what everybody’s lovin’, because I know I got a great body of work,” he said. “I’m ready to give it away, I’m using this weekend as study research. I’ll be getting as drunk as I can trying to fit in, doin’ it like that.”

Gudda Gudda Speaks On “I Am Still Music” Tour x Lil Wayne x More

With Lil Wayne’s plans to extend his “I Am Still Music” tour in mid-summer, SOHH hit up Gudda Gudda to find out what life on the road is like. Reflecting on the recently ended “I Am Still Music” tour, Double G described the overall fan appreciation to seeing Weezy after serving nearly a year in jail in 2010.

“I was on some of the ‘I Am Still Music’ tour dates because I was doing a lot of shows on my own during the tour so I would try to catch as many dates as I could. I would do some shows and then go back but on the second run, I’m going to definitely be at a lot more of the shows so I’ll definitely be ready for the next one,” Gudda Gudda told SOHH. “Man, it definitely was more special. He was gone for a good year so when he came back, the energy was just stupid crazy. Every night had been crazy since he’s been back and everybody now is ready for this Tha Carter IV album.”

Gudda also gave the inside scoop on silly antics YM members pull when all together:

“We got a bunch of clowns in Young Money and I want nothing to do with it, [laughs],” Gudda Gudda added when asked about Young Money road trip playful antics. “When we get together, there’s a lot of clowning around and people acting crazy. There’s a lot of chemistry and we’re really like family. Everybody gets along and ain’t no beefs like, ‘I don’t like this person’ and ‘I don’t like that person.’ Everybody gets along and we get around each other and have fun. Even though we haven’t seen each other for months at a time, we get around each other and it’s just like the last time. It’s all love, we all having fun and we’re all doing our thing.”

Gudda Gudda Speaks On How To Get Signed To Young Money

Double G recently spoke on how you can get signed to Young Money Entertainment and why having yet to release a solo album is the least of his worries.

Everybody on Young Money got their own lane, so there’s no room for hate. Everybody is doing their thing and everybody is pretty much getting money. It’s enough for everybody out here. Everybody is doing their thing and we all support everybody

As far as what does it take to make it in Young Money, that’s more of a Lil Wayne question because he decides who’s in at the end of the day. He chooses who to work with and who to sign. But with me being around, I just know that it has to come down to talent. There’s got to be some type of talent that’s brought to the table.

Lil Wayne’s not gonna sign you just because you look like a rapper. At the end of the day, there’s got to be some type of talent and some type of good music coming out of you in order to be here. If you got some heat, then hopefully one day you’ll be able to come across Wayne or somebody in Young Money that could possibly present you to Wayne. Maybe a record deal could happen like that.

I feel like I represent the epitome of the street mixtape artist. I’m not one of those artists that’s hellbent on putting out an album. I really don’t care. If it happens, it happens. If it don’t, it don’t. I’m gonna still be me and I’m still gonna get this money. I’m going to keep making my music. That’s just my stance with Young Money, focusing on putting out new music, smashing these mixtapes, getting this money and doing what I do.

Nicki Minaj Speaks On Summer Tour, Pink Friday Follow Up & Tha Carter IV

Billboard recently spoke to Nicki Minaj about her upcoming tour with Britney Spears this summer, the follow up to Pink Friday, and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV album:

“People think Spears is a pop tour and Lil Wayne was a hip-hop tour and Nicki’s going to completely change — I think that’s the biggest misconception,” Minaj tells Billboard.com. “I think people don’t understand that I remain myself, whether I’m on a hip-hop tour or a pop tour.”

And, Minaj adds, she doesn’t think there’s that much difference between Weezy’s and Britney’s crowds, anyway. “The Wayne tour to me was a pop tour,” she explains. “Most people probably think that they’re only gonna see black faces in the audience for him, but we see everyone in that audience. Eighty percent of the crowd is everything but black. To me, hip-hop is pop. They’ve merged. Everyone listens to rap. I think it’s all the same thing. And even if I was going out with Wayne again, I would still make the changes I’m making because my brand is going to keep evolving.”

Minaj, who’s just started rehearsals for the two-month Spears tour — which starts June 16 in Sacramento, Calif. — says she plans to “continue with the theatrics and stuff I started with on the Wayne tour and expand that a little bit, and expand the dancers and just (use) more props and all that stuff. I just really try to create my own world on that stage, so that’s what I’m working on. Obviously I want to make it a little bit bigger for this one…Right now I’m just feeling out ideas.” As for doing something with Spears during the shows, Minaj says that, “It’s definitely been mentioned, but I can’t say yet. I’m not positive.”

While she’s still riding the success of her platinum 2010 debut album “Pink Friday” — which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in November — Minaj says that she already knows when she’ll be releasing its follow-up, though she’s mum on the subject. “I don’t want to say when yet,” Minaj notes, explaining that her new single, “Super Bass,” “is taking off, so we’re continuing to work ‘Pink Friday.’ ”

It’s likely that the next record work we hear from Minaj will be her contributions to Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter IV,” which is due out June 21. But even she’s not entirely sure what exactly we’ll hear.

“I did two different things, and we’ll see what the man decides to do,” Minaj explains. “With Wayne, you never know; he’s known to change his mind a lot when he’s putting out his albums, so we’ll see. I just know that something is going to be on ‘Tha Carter IV,’ and I just know ‘Tha Carter IV’ is going to be epic. That’s really all I know.”

Mack Maine Plans New Record Label Under YMCMB Labels

Above, MTV speaks to Mack Maine over the phone about a new sub-label he is in the process of creating under the Young Money, Cash Money, Universal labels.

“You know how Roc-A-Fella had State Property; I’m actually in the process of starting a new label … a sub-label, basically,” Mack said of the still-untitled imprint that he will head under the Cash Money umbrella.

Wayne is scheduled to drop Tha Carter IV on June 21, and there are plans for Birdman’s fifth solo album, Bigger Than Life, to follow in July. And, that isn’t all: According to the YM prez, Tyga will be dropping Careless World this year, Lil Twist will be putting out his first effort, Don’t Get it Twisted, and Drake is readying his sophomore LP, Take Care. “Drake let me hear 10 songs the other night — 10 bangers he’s working,” Mack said. “Drake’s coming in September, just know that.”

Not to be left out, Mack himself also will be releasing an album this summer. With at least six projects already on the proposed schedule, the New Orleans rapper/executive said adding a third label to the YMCM structure will help facilitate the flow of releases. “I want to make sure I put a few people out through that vessel instead of putting everybody out under the same label, which is hard,” he said. “But we’re all one big family.”

MTV chat to Young Money’s Barbie about talks between her and Simon Cowell regarding the X Factor TV show.

“I can’t talk about that, but I love Simon very dearly,” the Lil Wayne protégé answered in a British accent. “He’s such an amazing man. I had the pleasure of meeting him and my life will never be the same, darling. I told him that. I was absolutely in love with him prior to meeting him. And now that I’ve met him, it’s like I dream about him every night.”

“I know the show is gonna be dope ’cause Simon is dope,” Nicki said, back in her own voice. “And I wish them luck.”
