Drake Talks Debut Album + J. Cole Speaks About Drake Comparisons

November 11, 2009 by Danny M

In the video above, J. Cole speaks about comparisons with Drake, and more! Also, check out Rap-Up’s interview with Drizzy below were he talks about his upcoming album titled Thank Me Later:

How far along are you in the recording process?
I’m still in an early stage. This is my first album and it takes a lot for me to commit to a song and be like, “I like this enough that I’m gonna put it on the album.” Every artist will have their album list, like these are the songs I’m considering. It takes a lot for me to put a song onto that list. It’s gotta be a real great song. It’s gotta be something that I feel is timeless and is better than anything that I’ve ever done. Towards the end, you listen to it as a full body of work and start to appreciate certain songs that you may not have seen the vision for initially. I’m gettin’ there though. I’mma get it done. Next few months, it’ll be done.

Drake Confirms “Thank Me Later” First Single

Drake Confirms Thank Me Later First Single

Young Money‘s Drake has confirmed recent reports of his debut album, Thank Me Later, being led by a The-Dream collaboration single and dropping around early next year.

“I’m able to walk around, so I’m working very hard on the album,” he revealed in an interview. “I’ve been out of the scene for so long because I’ve been off my leg…Sitting at home in your apartment and having a doctor come over every day and eating healthy and going to the gym — there’s not much of a rap album to be made off that. I have to get my inspiration and start seeing things and going to dinners and meeting people again and just finding stories to tell for this album. I’m trying to make something timeless…[It’s] an R&B song…It’s sexy. It’s slow, but there’s an energy to it. I rap on it. Me and Dream both sing on it. It’s cool. [It has a] message that’s never really been explored by male singers. This song is sort of like an anthem for women, like pre-the club. It’s like an anthem for you to be at your house with your girlfriends getting ready, what you listen to before you get there.”

Drake Readies ‘Prince-Like’ First Single “Shut It Down” With The-Dream

Drake Readies Prince-Like First Single Shut It Down With The-Dream

So we have the news on Drake’s upcoming first single which will be called “Shut It Down” and will feature vocals by The-Dream. No, Dream and Tricky are not behind the production of the song though. It belongs to Harlem based producer Omen.

The idea for the track, which Omen describes as a “Prince-like, powerful song,” is about “empowering females. Drake said he had a song idea called “Shut It Down” aimed at club-going females.

When they go out and they get dressed up and put their makeup on and get their hair done, they have the capacity to shut the club down,” says Omen.

The video will be directed by Hype Williams. Drake’s debut album Thank Me Later is currently scheduled for a February 2010 release.
