Drake XXL Cover Story Outtakes

Here are some outtakes from Drake‘s interview with XXL Magazine which did not make it in their current issue that is on newsstands now. He talks about the difference between writing rap and writing R&B records, hating the way he looks in some pictures, being bored of mixtapes, haters, and more!

How many songs are on Thank Me Later?

Drake: It’ll probably end up being about 15. But it’s just, you know, I love doing R&B music, I really do. And I just always feel like to tie in hip-hop with R&B and to utilize R&B to glue it all together, that’s my trademark. That’s something that only I can do. And that’s why I will continue to do it. There might come a time where I might be like, “Yo, I just want to do an R&B mixtape, or I just want to do a whole R&B album,” but I don’t think so, man. I think that that is the makeup of me—melody and just the tone of my voice and all; I don’t think I could ever change that, so…

I’m waiting on the Drake Gangsta Grillz.

Drake: [Laughs] I just find that boring, you know. There’s certain people where it’s impressive, like with Lil Wayne, to hear him freestyling over other people’s beats for an hour is impressive because it’s just like, Yo, this guy never runs out of clever shit to say, but for me, people might want to hear it, but it’s just not something that I really want to give you. I’d rather just give you something that lasts a little longer than that ’cause those mixtapes never really last much longer than six months. When the songs become played out, and…

Nicki Minaj The Fader Magazine Interview And Photos

We recently posted Nicki Minaj on the front cover of The Fader magazine (you can see that here), and we now have the article and some more photos from the photo shoot courtesy of BlogXilla. The magazine should hit newsstands sometime next week, and in the interview below, Nicki speaks about her first rhymes, her status in Rap, and why she’s always making those goofy faces. You can also view some outtakes from the photo shoot here!

Nicki Minaj on Her Status In The Game and Being A Personality: “I don’t know where I fit in the spercturum of rap yet, I think now I’m kind of proving myself, but before, people thought of I was more of a sex symbol or wannabe sex symbol. Now they’re seeing. That’s why I make the goofiest faces, I don’t want people to think I’m up here trying to be cute. I’m trying to entertain, and entertaining is more than exuding sex appeal. I don’t think that’s fun. I don’t find it fun watching someone trying to be sexy. It’s wack. I’m trying to just show my true personality, and I think that means more than anything else. I think when personality is at the forefront, its not about male or female, its just about, who is this weird character?”

Nicki Minaj on Control and Writing Her Own Rhymes: “I am so territorial, that [from the start] I just felt like whatever I was gonna do I was gonna write it myself, its my personal preference to always be in control of everything I do in life.”

Nicki Minaj on Writing ‘Saxon’ For Rihanna: “This wasn’t supposed to come out in the world with Nicki Minaj on it. This was written for someone else, and I felt so f*cked up behind it. But I thought the beat was very different, and I wanted to write something for Rihanna that showed like, I already shut that shit down.
