Drake Addresses The Similarities Between Hotline Bling & DRAM Cha Cha

Yesterday, D.R.A.M. accused Drake of robbing his “Cha Cha” single to create his “Hotline Bling” song, which both sample Timmy Thomas’ “Why Can’t We Live Together“, after the music video for “Hotline Bling was released.

It didn’t even help that when “Hotline Blingfirst premiered on Beats 1 Radio’s OVO Sound Radio show, it was being called a “Cha Cha” remix. Anyway, Drizzy has addressed the similarities between both tracks in an interview with The FADER that has just surfaced online.

You can read what Drizzy Drake said after the jump below!

“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that. Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person—me, this guy, this guy, all these guys—had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.”

Why does Drake have to beat around the bush. It’s a remix that’ what it is. It’s what it was called originally and the reason why hasn’t changed.
